Linux
原始码库: github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop
Telegram FZ LLC
This is a warning based on a true story, and it’s extremely important. If ignored, the consequences will be endless. I advise those who are a bit careless to take it seriously (Note: This article does not encourage any negative behavior):
Regarding our articles on scam prevention, [Hi News] has probably published more than twenty, and as for the chief editor, VP, he sets an example by constantly reminding his friends and brothers around him to tighten their security. There’s a saying: “A cautious driver may sail for a lifetime!” Honestly, even VP feels he’s being repetitive, but there are still those who don’t believe it! Some people think they’re clever enough to be immune to scams, but no one knows when a scammer might target them in some way. Today, we want to have a serious chat about this.
First, let’s discuss why scams on Telegram (TG) keep happening: TG, short for “Telegram.”
Telegram is a cross-platform instant messaging software, where the client is free and open-source, but the server is proprietary. Users can exchange encrypted and self-destructing messages, as well as send photos, videos, and all types of files. The official version is available on mobile, desktop, and web platforms; plus, they provide an application programming interface, leading to many third-party clients to choose from. Wikipedia lists language options including English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, French, Arabic, and more (and there’s also a Chinese language pack that supports real-time updates). It was launched on August 14, 2013, developed in Russia, and is compatible with Android, iOS, iPadOS, Microsoft Windows, macOS, web apps, and Linux. The original creators are Nikolai Durov and Pavel Durov, with the source repository available at github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop, developed by Telegram FZ LLC. There are countless add-ons available because the code is open-source, so as long as you’re willing to spend money, you can find all sorts of plugins and extensions—if you can think of it, it can probably be done…
For example, you can easily use technical means to obtain specific people’s account information or even synchronize chat records, which has led to incidents where the former and current Prime Ministers of Cambodia have had their accounts hacked multiple times! Because this cross-platform app has almost no regulation, it has been chosen by more and more users and targeted by those with ill intentions…
From the above example, it’s clear that those with bad intentions are often willing to buy plugins and add-ons online that can access user account information, making it easy to gather private information from specific targets. Well! I can’t go into too much detail about the subsequent content…
Today, we unfortunately learned that another scam victim lost $2,500…
Do you want to know what types of people scammers target?
The first type: People who only have eyes for their phones, who see their phones as their soul.
The second type: Those for whom their phone is their entire world.
The third type: Those who seem like they would lose their life without their phone immediately.
The fourth type: People who only care about gossip and don’t use their brains to think.
The fifth type: Those who willingly sacrifice brain training for their phones (sorry, this one seems similar to the previous one), yet [Hi News] still chose to include this group? That’s because the fourth type still has hope, while the fifth type is already beyond saving… Do you get it?
So, ask yourself: which group do you belong to?
As mentioned earlier, scammers only need to spend a few dozen to a hundred dollars to quickly obtain plugins that can steal the privacy information of specific individuals. They target this group because your complete chat history with friends could have been leaked, allowing them to easily impersonate your friend and chat with you in a way that seems 100% believable. Just like the friend mentioned above, a scammer took $2,500 from them with just a few words! So, what else can you do after that?
The harsh reality is: you can’t do anything! Due to the lack of regulation, and the fact that no country officially recognizes TG chat records as legally binding, even if you report it, it won’t help. If it happened in Cambodia, you might have to pay additional fees just for reporting the incident… So, it’s better to save your effort! The only thing you can do is read more articles from [Hi News] to gain some knowledge and help prevent scams!
